Players from Richmond Hockey Club have made a donation of £250 to Tom’s Fund and CRY.

A group of veteran players arrange a social golf day each year and once all costs have been met and prizes awarded the remaining balance is given to a charity.

This year Claire and Paul’s next door neighbour, Sheila King, who knew Tom, selected Cardiac Risk in the Young. She said: “Many of the players have young children and strongly support the work being done by CRY”.

Her husband, Peter King, originally organised the golf day but sadly died some years ago. The day’s memorial cup is played in his name.

Claire said: “We really appreciate Sheila thinking of us on such a day. We’d like to thank Sheila and all at Richmond Hockey Club for making such a generous donation.”

The funds will help to ensure further free heart screenings can take place for those aged 14-35 in west London. For details of this year’s event in Ealing on November 9, please go to the ‘Book Appointment’ section here.

Free heart screenings sponsored by Tom’s Fund for young people aged 14-35 can now be booked online at http://www.testmyheart.org/

This year’s screenings will be held on Sunday, November 9, and once again we must thank the Florence Road surgery in Florence Road, Ealing, for hosting the event.

If you have any queries, please do not ring the surgery but contact CRY on 01737 363222 (10am – 5pm Monday to Friday excluding Bank Holidays) or by emailing cry@c-r-y.org.uk

Tom’s Fund has supported screenings, mainly in west London, every year since 2009. More than 1,000 young people have been screened. We are, as ever, incredibly grateful to all those who have supported us by fund-raising. Without their efforts, these screenings would not take place.

Claire raised £250 by running a second-hand book stall at the Brentford Festival in Blondin Park, Ealing, on Sunday, September 7.

She was delighted with the amount but also pleased at how people responded to the Tom’s Fund stand: “Many people either knew Tom directly or had heard of him and knew about CRY. Many more stopped and looked at our display so we hope that we have helped to raise awareness.”

Claire thanked all those who had helped on the day.

The Great North Run

Family friend Isabel Turner is running in the Great North Run tomorrow in memory of Tom.

Isa has already raised £2,500 for CRY and said “The run will be a really tough challenge for me but I will be spurred on every step of the way by the memory of Tom’s energy, joie de vivre and laughter which still feel so fresh.”

The half-marathon starts in Newcastle-on-Tyne and ends in South Shields.
